Mobile Technology
Our mobile technology is a leading edge technology based on using sophisticated streaming vector technology, innovative vector compression/decompression methods and patent pending fetching and rendering algorithms. These advanced and unique technologies deliver high quality map images combined with excellent application performance. Our mobile technology is based on client-server architecture for mobile-based GIS applications via the Internet. The maps are streamed online to the mobile phone and enable interactive zooming and panning. No maps have to be installed on the mobile phone only the application itself (off-board platform). The maps are downloaded to the device from the map server upon request as a result of user actions. The client side is a Java ME based mobile application. Java ME is the most wide spread platform adopted by all major mobile phone vendors worldwide. More than 1.2 Billion devices worldwide (8 of every 10 mobile handsets are shipped with Java, source: Ovum, 2007). By using the streaming vector maps technology the maps can take 1/10 of the time to download from the Internet in comparison to the standard raster maps (images). This reduces dramatically the maps download time and therefore increases the overall performance.
